Aqua Pennsylvania (Aqua) will replace the existing water mains on the following streets in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County.
• Barren Hill Road between Harts Lane and Ridge Pike
• Cherrydale Drive between Harts Lane and the cul-de-sac
The project is scheduled to begin the week of March 14, 2016 with the installation of 2,256 feet of 8-inch and 625 feet of 6-inch ductile iron pipe, with completion expected in May. The new main will replace the existing 6-inch cast iron mains. Aqua will have an inspector on the job each day to answer any questions.
Construction will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Cherrydale Drive. Work will take place on Barren Hill Road weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Access will be provided for emergency, mail, school bus and trash services. Residents will have access to their properties but at times will need to enter from a different direction due to changing work zones. We will notify customers 24 hours in advance of any scheduled shutdown, however, as with any construction project, an emergency shutdown might be necessary. If so, we will restore service as soon as possible
Following the installation of the new water main, there will be a period of time during which the main will be chlorinated and tested before being put into service, during this phase, activity on the job site will be limited. Once testing has been completed, we will transfer each water service and any fire hydrants onto the new main. It is important to note that the trench will be covered with temporary black top at the end of each work day. Once all of the activity described has been completed, permanent restoration will follow in about 30 to 60 days.
