Invasive Species

Common invasive species to Whitemarsh Township

Invasive species present one of the most significant and urgent threats to American's forests, according to the American Society of Foresters. Below are some of the more common and harmful species you may find in Whitemarsh Township:

Ailanthus Tree (aka Tree of Heaven)

Native to China and parts of Asia, Ailanthus altissima is an aggressively spreading deciduous tree common in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Tree of Heaven is also the preferred home to spotted lanternfly, an invasive pest species that is decimating agriculture in our area.  Residents are encouraged to identify and remove Tree of Heaven to prevent the spread of both the tree and spotted lanternfly.
