March 12 - INVASIVE PLANTS

When: Monday, March 12, 2012 from 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Where: William Jeanes Memorial Library (4051 Joshua Road)

Cost: Free if pre-registered. $5 if registering at the door

Ever wonder if the weeds growing in your yard or flower beds are more than just nuisance? Learn about the invasive plant species that are pervasive in our region, why they pose a threat to our local ecology, and the best tactics for controlling them. Joanne Donahue, manager of Land Restoration at the Schuylkill Center will share the best methods for controlling invasive plants and reclaiming your yard and flower beds with native alternatives.

March 20 - SPRING GARDEN PREP

When: Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 7 pm - 8 pm

Where: Whitemarsh Township Building (616 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill)

Techniques, tools, and timing of proper pruning of perennials, trees and shrubs will be discussed to get gardeners prepared for spring.

April 12 - ORGANIC GARDENING

When: Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Where: Township Parks & Recreation Building (4021 Joshua Road, Lafayette Hill, PA)

Learn tips and tricks for managing your home garden without the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Camila Rivera-Tinsley, Education Farm Manager at the Schuylkill Center will share the basics of integrated pest management and strategies of growing healthy food you can feel good about!

May 2, 2012 - GOING GREEN

When: Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 7 pm to 8 pm

Where: Koontz Park Building

Cost: Free if pre-registered. $5 if registering at the door

This "Going Green" program will be about making lifestyle changes such as home and garden methods, alternative energy, and protecting water resources, all ways in which people can contribute to maintaining a more sustainable environment. The topic of integrated pest management will also be discussed.
