Over 5,290 owners of Township properties which are connected to the public
sewer system are required to pay an annual service charge (or rent) to Whitemarsh
Township.
The 2005 sewer rent rate for residential properties is a flat rate of:
The Township mails residential sewer rental bills on April 1st of each year. Rents paid after June 30th are subject to a 10% penalty. In addition, interest is added at the rate of 12% per annum on any unpaid balances. Residential property owners with delinquent balances are subject to the imposition of liens. Residential property owners with liens in excess of $200 are subject to water termination. Any property owner who fails to pay the sewer rental bill is subject to shut-off of its water service pursuant to an agreement between Whitemarsh Township and Aqua Pennsylvania. In the event of a shut-off, the delinquent property owner shall also be charged all costs and expenses incurred by the Township to effectuate the shut-off.
Annual sewer rent revenues fund the operation and maintenance of the Township's sanitary sewer system, consisting of a 2.0 MGD Treatment Plant, 100 miles of sanitary sewer lines and 17 pump stations. Portions of the Township sewage is also discharged to treatment facilities in Conshohocken Borough, Ambler Borough and Philadelphia, and treatment costs are paid to these municipalities.
For more information about the Township's sewer rent billing and collection procedures, please call the Finance Departments Sewer Rent Coordinator, Sandra White, at 610-825-3535.
Please Note - Illegal Sewer Connections - When storm water leaks into our sanitary sewer system, it flows through pipes with raw sewage, adding unnecessarily to the cost of processing. This in turn drives up the Township's annual sewer rent for all property owners. In Whitemarsh water is infiltrating the sewer system through household sump pumps and downspouts connected to sewer pipes. These practices are illegal! The owners of such properties are advised to redirect or unhook such connections. Whitemarsh property owners who are caught with illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system are subject to steep fines.
