The 2017 leaf collection begins on Monday, October 16, 2017 and will continue until Monday, December 18, 2017. The Township Public Works Department will make every effort to collect from each street at least once each week. All leaves for last pick up must be piled out ont he streets by 6:30 AM on Monday, December 18.
Residents are asked to pile the leaves onto the curb - LEAVES ARE NOT TO BE BAGGED.
The Whitemarsh Township Public Works Department collects an average of 1,500 tons (or about 6,000 cubic yards) of leaves each year through the Curbside Leaf Pick-Up Program. Once the leaves are collected, the public works crew run the leaves through the tub grinder and then set them in windrows at the Township Public Works facility.
In about a year's time, the ground up leaves become a viable product called leaf compost. Once the leaf compost has reached its completion stage, the compost is then delivered to the residents of the township for a nominal fee.
Over the years, the leaf composting program has grown popular with the Township residents. In response to the demand, the staff at the Public Works Department have worked to time the composting process just right so that by the time spring arrives, they can haul the finished product for the residents to use for their spring gardening, making room for the next season.
The Township charges $36 per 3 yards of leaf compost. The Township Public Works Department delivers compost orders for 3 yards or 6 yards per order. Delivery is scheduled for Fridays. Orders for Friday delivery MUST be placed by Noon on Thursday.
Residents who would like to order delivery of compost should call the township at 610-825-3535 and speak with the receptionist.
